Setting up your digital ID in Spain

Cl@ve and digital certificates are the logins for many online procedures

Many Spanish procedures, from tax to Social Security, are now handled online with an electronic login. Cl@ve is the national login, and a digital certificate or Catalonia’s idCAT does the same job. Some of these can be set up online, but the stronger level needs you to visit a registration office with your ID, because nobody can register for you.

How it works

Get help with your digital ID

Set up, activate or recover the digital ID you use to log in to government services.

Most government services online require a digital ID, such as DigiD in the Netherlands, itsme in Belgium, Cl@ve in Spain, the trusted profile in Poland, the online ID card function in Germany or electronic ID in Iceland. Setting one up often needs a one-time identity check in person, and offices, libraries and help desks can help you activate it, reset a PIN or recover access. Bring your passport or ID card and your phone. Never share your passwords or login codes, even with someone offering to help.

Getting help with your digital ID in Spain

Some offices register you for Cl@ve, others issue a digital certificate, and a few do both. Bring your identity document and go yourself, because nobody else can register for you.
