Cancel your address registration when you leave Spain

Ask your town hall to take you off its list of residents

If you are a foreign resident leaving Spain for good, you can ask the town hall of your last home to remove you from its register, the padrón, with a baja por cambio de residencia. Some towns accept a signed request online, others want you at the counter, and requests for family members may need a visit. Spanish citizens who move abroad usually deal with their consulate in the new country instead.

How it works

Report a move abroad

Deregister your address when you leave the country for good.

Before you move abroad, you may need to tell the authorities that you are leaving so they can remove you from the population register. This is often possible online, by post or at the town hall, usually shortly before or after you leave. Keep the confirmation: the tax office, your pension fund or your new country may ask for proof of the date you left. Benefits, health insurance and residence permits may need to be cancelled separately.
