Get proof of your registered address in Spain

The padrón certificate shows where you are registered to live

Many procedures in Spain ask for proof that you are registered at a town hall. The formal version is the certificado de empadronamiento; a simpler slip is called a volante. Town halls often issue them free of charge, and many let you download one online with a digital certificate or Cl@ve, the government’s digital login. You can usually choose between a certificate for you alone, one for everyone in your household and one that shows your earlier addresses.

How it works

Get proof of your registered address

Order an official certificate or extract showing where you are registered.

Employers, banks, schools and authorities often ask for official proof of your registered address. Depending on the country, this is a registration certificate, an extract from the population register or a household certificate. Check exactly which document and language the recipient needs, as the versions contain different details. Many places let you order it online with your digital ID; otherwise you can get it at the town hall, sometimes for a small fee.

Where to get proof of your registered address

Your town hall decides how it issues proof of registration: an instant download with a digital certificate, a copy sent to your home, or a counter visit at a booked time. Most let you choose between a certificate for you alone, one for your whole household and one that shows earlier addresses.
