Social assistance in Spain
Who to ask when money runs short, what a social worker can do and which centre covers your neighbourhood.
Tell the town hall where you live now, even if you only moved across town
Your address on the town hall register, the padrón, should match where you actually live. After a move you report the cambio de domicilio at the town hall of your new home, and in most cases that also ends your registration in the old town. You need to show that you live at the new address, for example with a rental contract or the owner’s authorisation, and every adult in the household usually signs the form.
How it works
Update your registered address after moving within the same country.
When you move within the country, you usually need to report your new address within a set period. Many places let you do this online with your digital ID; otherwise you report it at the town hall of your new municipality. Have your ID and proof of your new home ready, such as a rental contract or the owner’s permission, and include everyone moving with you. If you are arriving from abroad, use the registration for new arrivals instead.

Town halls take address changes in different ways, and in some towns a different branch serves each area. Wherever you go, expect to show that you live at the new address, for example with a rental contract or the owner’s authorisation.
