Offices that take your departure report in Belgium

Go to the municipality where you are registered now

The report is made where you currently live, so the right office depends on your Belgian address. Towns handle it differently: a walk-in counter, an emailed form, an online request or a phone call first. Foreign residents hand in their residence card as part of it.

  • Aalst

    Administratief centrum Aalst

    Werf 9, 9300 Aalst

Report the move at the latest the day before you leave, and one adult can do it for accompanying family.

Prepare the foreign address, departure date and phone number. Belgians provide national-register numbers and identity-card copies for everyone moving; non-Belgians bring their residence cards. Keep the departure certificate; Belgian citizens can use it for consular registration.

  • Antwerp

    Loket Migratie

    Maurice Dequeeckerplein 1, 2100 Antwerp

As a non-Belgian resident, report online between a week and a day before you go, then return your residence card.

Make a copy of your residence card before surrendering it and retain the Model 8 certificate. Model 8 proves deregistration, not previous lawful residence; the city stresses keeping the card copy for border checks, especially for non-Schengen nationals. If a previously reported temporary absence becomes permanent, submit the form again and select permanent departure. Check the consequences for residence continuity before choosing this procedure.

  • Arlon

    Hôtel de Ville d’Arlon

Rue Paul Reuter 8, 6700 Arlon

Phone the population service before you leave, as afternoon and Saturday-morning visits need an appointment.

Prepare your departure date and destination details. If a child moves abroad, arrange attendance by the person with parental authority. Keep the departure certificate and clarify separately any effect on health insurance, benefits or tax obligations.

  • Bruges

    Huis van de Bruggeling

Frank Van Ackerpromenade 2, 8000 Bruges

Use the online departure form if everyone in your household is Belgian, otherwise phone the city first.

Have your identity document, new foreign address and the details of all accompanying household members ready; confirm the checklist when contacting the city. A minor must be accompanied by a parent or guardian; bring any relevant judgment or agreement. Keep the model 8 document. The office is reached at first-floor level from Stationsplein or the station car park; check access notices around the station works.

  • Brussels

    Brucity — Departure abroad

Rue des Halles 4, 1000 Brussels

Walk in to the departure counter without an appointment, or send the signed form and ID copies by email.

For a counter visit bring your identity card or residence permit. The official departure form is available in French and Dutch online. Keep the Model 8 you receive as proof of deregistration. The immediate processing time does not specify an email-response guarantee; contact the service if you need confirmation before travelling.

  • Charleroi

    Maison citoyenne de Charleroi

Place Vauban 14-15, Entrée place du Manège, 6000 Charleroi

If you plan to return to Belgium one day, ask about the absence procedure before you declare your departure.

Have identification, your registered address and the intended departure details available when contacting the municipal population service (Population), and ask for the document checklist for your household. A Belgian residence permit held by a foreign national is normally cancelled immediately for departure abroad unless a right of return is exercised; discuss that position with the competent foreigners service first. Ask the population service to confirm how to submit your declaration, which attachments your household needs and whether a fee applies before sending it.

  • Charleroi

    Maison citoyenne de Gilly

Place J. Destrée, Gilly, 6060 Charleroi

Phone or email the local population desk to arrange your departure notice, and ask whether you need an appointment.

    Maison citoyenne de Gosselies

Rue Junius Massau 4, Centre civique de Gosselies, 6041 Charleroi

Report your move abroad no later than the day before you leave, and call first to confirm how to file.

A Belgian residence permit held by a foreign national is normally cancelled immediately for departure abroad unless a right of return is exercised; discuss that position with the competent foreigners service first. • Charleroi

    Maison citoyenne de Marchienne-au-Pont

Place Kennedy 1, Maison communale annexe de Marchienne-au-Pont, 6030 Charleroi

Ask the staff to explain the date your deregistration takes effect and the steps for the rest of your household.

Have identification, your registered address and the intended departure details available when contacting the municipal population service (Population), and ask for the document checklist for your household. • Charleroi

Maison citoyenne de Marcinelle – Population

Avenue Eugène Mascaux 100, Maison communale annexe de Marcinelle, 6001 Charleroi

Belgian nationals receive a deregistration certificate for registering with a Belgian embassy or consulate abroad.

  • Eupen

    Stadtverwaltung Eupen

    Am Stadthaus 1, 4700 Eupen

You have to report your departure in person, so call the population service to arrange a visit.

When booking, explain your intended departure and ask which identity, destination-address or family documents are needed. Confirm what evidence of deregistration you will receive and any remaining steps for your residence document.

  • Evere

    For residence permit holders

    Gemeente Evere — Dienst Vreemdelingen

    S. Hoedemaekerssquare 10, 1140 Evere

Report your departure in the last week before you go, and expect your residence card to be kept and cancelled.

Prepare passport or valid European national ID, all affected household members’ residence cards and exact foreign address; bring a photo if attending. Keep a card copy before surrender. If already abroad, the city asks for the card by post. Obtain any needed criminal-record extract before deregistration. Confirm exceptions before assuming your card remains valid.

  • Genk

    Stadhuis Genk

    Stadsplein 1, 3600 Genk

Phone to book a town hall appointment shortly before you leave, and say whether the move is permanent or temporary.

Bring your identity card or residence permit. When booking, explain who is leaving and the planned departure date; ask which destination details and family documents the city needs for your case.

  • Ghent

    Dienst Burgerzaken – Migratie

    Woodrow Wilsonplein 1, 9000 Ghent

Non-Belgian residents fill in the online form up to a week before leaving, and keep the residence card until banking is done.

Have your current residence card, national-register number, details of family members leaving with you, email, phone, overseas address and departure date ready. Keep a copy of the card: Model 8 and appendix 37 alone do not prove prior lawful residence at border checks. If a declared temporary absence becomes permanent, submit the form again with permanent departure selected.

  • Ghent

    Dienst Burgerzaken – Verhuizen

    Woodrow Wilsonplein 1, 9000 Ghent

Sign the online form with your identity card, or email a signed copy, before you leave.

Prepare identity cards for everyone included, names, old address, departure date and foreign address; if unknown, at least the destination country and city. Keep the acknowledgement and reference number. Moving abroad does not automatically dissolve legal cohabitation. If you have already left, contact the department to resolve your registration rather than assuming a retrospective declaration is possible.

  • Hasselt

    Stadhuis Hasselt — 't Scheep

    Limburgplein 1, 3500 Hasselt

Book an appointment online and pick the departure service that matches your nationality, Belgian or not.

Prepare identity or residence card, national register number, foreign address, departure date and details of accompanying household members. For a Belgian household declaration, bring the relevant family members’ eIDs. Keep model 8 and the other documents issued. Belgian consular registration is separate and optional. Ask separately about temporary absence, card validity and return reporting if you intend to return.

  • Kontich

    Gemeente Kontich — Burgerzaken

    Gemeenteplein 1, 2550 Kontich

Send your declaration by email or book an appointment, and one adult can report for the whole household.

For a counter visit, bring proof of the foreign address, such as a rental contract, each moving household member’s identity card and the associated PIN/PUK codes. An email needs names and National Register numbers of all movers, telephone number, old address and attached foreign-address evidence. Attach the required child-consent form and parent’s identity copy where applicable. Do not email PIN/PUK codes: they are needed for the counter visit, not for the email declaration. Keep Model 8 for the relevant destination registration or, for Belgian citizens, consular registration.

  • Kortrijk

    For residence permit holders

    Burgerzaken

    Leiestraat 21, 8500 Kortrijk

Submit the form in the week before you leave, online or at an appointment, and ask what happens to your card.

For a counter visit, the city requires your foreign residence card and one recent passport photograph. Have your departure details ready and ask the foreign-residents team about any residence-document or return formalities specific to your status.

  • Kortrijk

    Burgerzaken

    Leiestraat 21, 8500 Kortrijk

Come to the counter if you can, so your eID is updated on the spot, or use the online form instead.

Prepare the planned departure date and destination address, and have your eID and PIN available for the chip update. Keep model 8 for consular registration. Notify your health insurer and relevant benefit, pension, banking and insurance organisations as appropriate.

  • La Louvière

Cité administrative – Département de la Citoyenneté

Place Communale 1, 7100 La Louvière

Hand your forms in at reception in person, since declarations sent by post, email or the letterbox are not processed.

Have identification, the household members affected and your planned departure/new-address details available when asking for the form and document checklist. The departure fee is €5; ask how to pay. Belgian residence permits held by foreign nationals are normally cancelled immediately for departure abroad unless a right of return is exercised, so discuss residence-card consequences first. Use the federal departure deadline rather than the separate eight-working-day rule for moving into a home in Belgium.
