A short report that updates your address registration at the municipal office
Polish citizens who leave for a longer stay abroad or for good tell the municipal office where they live, using the zgłoszenie wyjazdu za granicę. Leaving for good cancels both your permanent and your temporary registration, while a long temporary stay cancels only the temporary one. The report is due no later than the day you leave, and you report your return if you come back. It does not settle tax, social security or immigration matters. Foreign residents should ask their office what applies to them.
How it works
Deregister your address when you leave the country for good.
Before you move abroad, you may need to tell the authorities that you are leaving so they can remove you from the population register. This is often possible online, by post or at the town hall, usually shortly before or after you leave. Keep the confirmation: the tax office, your pension fund or your new country may ask for proof of the date you left. Benefits, health insurance and residence permits may need to be cancelled separately.
