Immigration offices for residence permits in Spain

Your province decides which immigration office handles your case

Each province has its own Oficina de Extranjería, and they do not all work alike: some push you to file online, some want you to phone before visiting and some take renewals through a public registry. Choose a city to see what the office handles, including study extensions for international students, and what to prepare.

Renew in the two months before expiry, either online or by booking a counter visit with a digital certificate.

Prepare signed EX-03, a complete copy of your valid passport/travel document and evidence for your renewal ground, including employment/benefit/family documents where applicable. Supply school-enrolment evidence for dependants of compulsory school age when required. Foreign documents may need sworn translation and legalisation/apostille, subject to exemptions. Check the current 790-052/062 fee sections and who pays each; no fixed amount is quoted here. Follow current Mercurio identification/signing requirements. After favourable renewal, apply personally for the TIE (foreigner identity card) with the competent police service within one month; that is a separate step. The current guide assigns 790-052 to the worker and 790-062 to the employer, payable within ten working days after filing; check the applicable sections and any exemption.

Extend online with the office that first authorised your studies, and aim to file before your permit expires.

Prepare a recognised passport/travel document with at least one year of validity, evidence of sufficient funds and return costs, health insurance, continued admission and paid enrolment, plus the applicable fee receipt. Check the current official model and any translation/authentication requirements. Following a favourable extension, arrange the separate police TIE (foreigner identity card) step within the stated one-month period after notification.
