Registries may ask where and when the event took place, so have the place, date and your ID details ready. Whether you must book a visit depends on the office. Online requests are often the quickest route, so some offices may point you there first.

State the purpose and required format; a special birth certificate for a first DNI/passport or a multilingual version requires the general application rather than the one-click option. Ask whether the recipient needs a recently issued certificate even though the certificate itself has no general expiry.
