Social assistance in Belgium
For people who cannot cover rent, food or other essentials: what the local social welfare centre can arrange and how to ask for an appointment.
One adult can often report the move for the whole household
In Belgium a move is reported to the municipality of your new address, and there is no need to tell the old one. You can only report it once you actually live there, and it also applies when you move within the same town. A local police officer checks the address, and afterwards you go to the town hall with your identity card or residence card and its PIN so the card can be updated. Many municipalities let you start online.
How it works
Update your registered address after moving within the same country.
When you move within the country, you usually need to report your new address within a set period. Many places let you do this online with your digital ID; otherwise you report it at the town hall of your new municipality. Have your ID and proof of your new home ready, such as a rental contract or the owner’s permission, and include everyone moving with you. If you are arriving from abroad, use the registration for new arrivals instead.

Your new address decides which office you use
You may be able to report online, at a self-service kiosk, at a district office or only at the main counter, depending on the town. Each office explains its routine. Confirm opening times and booking rules before you travel.
