Reporting your new address within the Netherlands

Tell the municipality you have moved so your details stay correct

When you move to another home in the Netherlands, you report the move to your municipality, or to the new one if you are changing municipality, so the population register (BRP) shows where you live. Many municipalities offer an online form with DigiD, the Dutch government login. Otherwise you go to the counter with ID and proof of your new home, such as a rental contract.

How it works

Report a change of address

Update your registered address after moving within the same country.

When you move within the country, you usually need to report your new address within a set period. Many places let you do this online with your digital ID; otherwise you report it at the town hall of your new municipality. Have your ID and proof of your new home ready, such as a rental contract or the owner’s permission, and include everyone moving with you. If you are arriving from abroad, use the registration for new arrivals instead.

Reporting a move at a Dutch town hall

Many municipalities take reports of a move online with DigiD, while others ask you to visit, for example if you were removed from the Dutch register. Open an office in Rotterdam or Eindhoven to see which route it offers and what proof of address to bring.
