Civil registries for registering events from abroad in Spain

Find out how your city’s registry wants you to start

Registries run this procedure in different ways: some ask for a phone call or email before anything else, others set up a specific appointment once your papers are ready, and married partners may both be asked to attend. Each registry also sets its own list of documents to prepare.

  • A Coruña

    Rexistro Civil de A Coruña

Rúa Emilia Pardo Bazán, 24, 15005 A Coruña

Phone or email first and ask how your application will be received and what it needs.

Ask which signed application, original foreign marriage certificate, identity documents and any birth or previous-marriage, divorce or death evidence your case requires. Confirm issuing-country legalisation and sworn-translation rules and any applicable EU or multilingual-document exemption before paying for these services. Do not book permission for a future wedding or request a copy of an existing Spanish entry instead. Civil registration is free; obtaining documents and translations can have separate costs. Ask the receiving office about expected handling times, notifications and any further Central or consular steps.

  • Alicante

    Registro Civil de Alicante

Calle Los Doscientos, 3, 03007 Alicante

Call or write first to explain the wedding took place abroad and ask whether you need an appointment.

Ask for the checklist for your nationality, issuing country and previous marital status. Prepare the foreign marriage certificate and both spouses’ identity details; confirm signatures, original documents, any birth or prior-marriage/divorce/death evidence, and the applicable legalisation or translation exemptions. Do not use a pre-wedding authorisation appointment or an existing-certificate request as a substitute. Registry registration is free, but obtaining documents and translations can cost separately. Ask how you will receive updates and which further steps belong to the Central or consular registry.

  • Almería

    Registro Civil de Almería

Carretera de Ronda, 120, 04005 Almería

Confirm issuing-country legalisation and sworn-translation rules and any applicable EU or multilingual-document exemption before paying for these services. Do not book permission for a future wedding or request a copy of an existing Spanish entry instead. Civil registration is free; obtaining documents and translations can have separate costs. Ask the receiving office about expected handling times, notifications and any further Central or consular steps.

  • Badalona

    Registre Civil de Badalona

Bring the signed application; original and copy of the Spanish spouse’s DNI (Spanish national identity card) and every passport page for non-Spanish spouses; current padrón certificates for both; the full marriage certificate; each spouse’s full birth certificate; and birth certificates of all children of both spouses. Unless the document specifies another validity period, the guidance accepts padrón certificates issued within six months and spouses’ birth certificates within one year.
