Social assistance in Spain
Who to ask when money runs short, what a social worker can do and which centre covers your neighbourhood.
Registration gives you a Spanish registration number and circulation permit
A new vehicle or one brought from abroad needs its first Spanish registration, called matriculación, at a Jefatura Provincial de Tráfico. Offices ask for the technical sheet, proof that the registration tax and the local circulation tax are settled, and your ID. You then receive a registration number and circulation permit, but you still need plates and insurance before you drive. Buying a used vehicle from someone else means a transfer, the cambio de titularidad.
How it works
Register a car you bought or imported, or transfer it to a new owner.
When you buy, import or sell a vehicle, its registration has to be updated. A first registration or an import usually requires proof of ownership, a valid technical inspection, insurance, your ID and proof of address; imports may also need customs or tax clearance and new plates. When you buy a used car within the country, the seller and buyer often complete the transfer together, sometimes online, at a post office or at a registration counter. Expect fees for plates and registration documents.

Pick the registration option when you book
A slot booked for another procedure does not cover vehicle registration, so choose the right area when you reserve. Bring the technical sheet, proof of tax and your ID, since the office will ask for them.
