Social assistance for people in difficulty in Poland
Learn what the welfare centre can offer, how the social worker’s visit works and which centre covers where you live.
Passports come from the regional government, not from your town hall
Polish citizens apply for a passport at a passport office run by the voivodeship office (urząd wojewódzki), the regional branch of national government. Adults give their fingerprints and sign in person, so the visit cannot be skipped, while for young children the application can be filed online. Bring a suitable photo, your current passport or ID and proof of payment. Some foreign birth or marriage certificates must be registered in Poland first.
How it works
Find a passport office and see how to prepare for your appointment.
Passports are issued by the country of your nationality. Citizens living in the country apply at a local passport office, usually in person with a photo that meets the rules and their old passport. Children often need consent from both parents. Processing takes from a few days to a few weeks, so ask about a faster option if you need to travel soon. If you live abroad and need your own country’s passport, contact its embassy or consulate. Foreign residents who cannot get a passport from their own country may qualify for an alien’s passport or a refugee travel document.

Reservations and walk-ins work differently by office
Poland’s passport offices belong to the regional government, not to your city, and each works by reservation, queue ticket or a mix of both. Where you collect the finished passport depends on the office too.
