Offices that issue passports in German cities

Appointment types and collection rules vary by city

Passport applications are taken by the local passport authority, which in many cities is part of the citizens’ office. Standard and express appointments are not offered everywhere, finished passports are handed over in different ways, and some offices ask for your previous passport again at collection.

Book a time online and come ten minutes early if you want your photo taken on site.

Bring existing photo ID and a digital biometric photo from a certified photographer or dm, or use the office device. An external certified provider is recommended for babies and children up to six. Bring both custodians’ written consent and ID copies for absent parents; if both are absent, their messenger also needs authorization and the child still attends. Bring a court order if relying on court-awarded sole custody. Civil-status records can help resolve register discrepancies. Bring the old passport at collection and flag any still-valid visas before it is invalidated.
