Citizens’ offices that issue ID cards in Germany

Compare photo options, appointments and collection by city

You normally apply for the Personalausweis at the citizens’ office where you are registered, and each city sets its own way of working. Appointment rules, photo arrangements and the handover of the finished card vary from office to office. If you have an old card, take it with you.

Hamburg Service vor Ort – City Einwohnerangelegenheiten

    Großer Burstah 6, 20457 Hamburg

Apply in person, children included, after booking online or by phone, then book a second visit to collect the card.

Bring identity evidence, relevant civil records and a certified digital photo code; paper photos are not accepted. The €6 on-site photo machine is not suitable for babies or very young children, so arrange their digital photo beforehand. For under-16s, at least one guardian must attend with the child. With joint custody, bring the absent guardian’s consent and ID or a clear ID copy; bring sole-custody evidence where applicable. Standard fees: €27.60 under 24 and €46 from 24.
