Where to apply for a Dutch identity card

Applications and collection work differently in each city

You apply at the municipality where you are registered, and each one sets its own routine. Some ask you to book ahead, some need a second visit to hand over the card and some deliver it. Dutch citizens who live abroad can also use certain border municipalities.

  • 's-Hertogenbosch

    Stadskantoor ’s-Hertogenbosch

    Wolvenhoek 1, 5211 HH 's-Hertogenbosch

Book ahead to apply in person, then collect your card without a second appointment within three months.

Bring your old ID card and passport, including expired documents, a compliant colour photo taken within six months and a payment card. There is no municipal photo service. Children under 12 need consent from all holders of parental responsibility; submitted consent is valid for three months. Accompanying guardians must bring original ID. Check the municipal consent form before attending.

  • Alkmaar

    Stadskantoor Alkmaar — Mallegatsplein

    Mallegatsplein 10, 1815 AG Alkmaar

Book one appointment that covers everyone applying, and phone if you need the urgent option.

Bring all passports and ID cards, including expired ones, a compliant colour photograph under six months old and a payment card. There is no photo service at this office. Where parental consent is required, bring the original consent form signed in pen by all holders of parental responsibility and their identity documents. Children must attend; under-12s attend with a parent, while children aged 12 or older may attend alone with the necessary documents.

  • Almelo

    Stadhuis Almelo

Haven Zuidzijde 30, 7607 EW Almelo

Start and pay online with DigiD, then visit for your photo and signature, or book a full counter application.

Bring all passports and ID cards, including expired ones, a compliant photograph and a bank card if paying at the counter. No photographs are taken at the town hall. For children under 12, bring valid ID or copies for both parents or the guardian. They can give consent online with DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites); call +31 546 541111 if that is not possible.

  • Almere

    Stadhuis Almere — Burgerzaken

    Stadhuisplein 1, 1315 HR Almere

Book online and, for a child under 12, give digital parental consent at least two working days beforehand.

Bring all passports and identity cards you hold, including expired ones, a compliant photograph taken within six months and a payment card. If parental responsibility was determined by a court, bring an extract from the parental-responsibility register (gezagsregister). Consent from those with parental responsibility is required for passport applicants under 18 and identity-card applicants under 12. Submit digital consent at least two working days before an identity-card appointment. If consent is required and you cannot use DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites), collect the consent form at Burgerzaken and bring it completed; the signature must match the signature on the consenting person’s identity document.

  • Alphen aan den Rijn

    Gemeentehuis Alphen aan den Rijn

Stadhuisplein 1, 2405 SH Alphen aan den Rijn

Apply in person, and your collection appointment is booked for you at the same visit.

Bring all passports and identity cards you hold, including expired documents, and a compliant colour photograph no older than six months. For applicants under 12, arrange consent from everyone with parental authority and bring their ID or copies; the municipality provides DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites) consent and a paper form. If all travel documents are lost and the previous one was issued elsewhere, call first: municipal identity checks may be needed, and a driving licence is insufficient for this check.

  • Amersfoort

    Stadhuis Amersfoort — Burgerzaken

    Stadhuisplein 1, 3811 LM Amersfoort

Book two appointments, one to apply and one to collect, and ask about a home visit if you cannot attend.

Bring a compliant colour photograph no older than six months and all Dutch travel documents, including expired ones. Under-12s need consent from every person with parental responsibility. Advance consent is valid for three months and can use DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites) or the signed paper form; follow the ID requirements for that option. Ask Burgerzaken about an overseas parent unable to consent online. Payment is by debit card; arrange help beforehand if needed.

For under-12s arrange the official online consent or signed paper form with the accompanying custodian’s ID and the required ID or copy for an absent custodian.
