Offices for claiming unemployment benefit in Spain

Book with the benefits office that covers your address

Claims in person are handled by the benefits offices of SEPE, the state employment service, and you attend the one assigned when you book. Pick a city to see what each office does, how to arrange a visit and what to have ready. Registering as a jobseeker is a separate step, often done with a different regional office.

File online with an accepted electronic ID, or book a benefits visit, and keep your submission receipt.

Prepare the official application, valid identity/residence documents and bank evidence for an account in your name. EU applicants need their passport/national identity document and the applicable NIE (foreigner identification number) registration certificate; other foreign applicants should check the TIE/family-member-card requirements. Provide relevant family evidence and the employer certificate for the last 180 worked days if it was not sent through Certific@2. Cases involving foreign work, dismissal disputes or dependants need additional evidence; consult the current SEPE (Spain’s public employment service) checklist. Complete regional jobseeker registration beforehand unless SEPE’s stated automatic-registration exception applies.
