Passports in the Netherlands
For Dutch citizens renewing a passport and for residents without a passport from their own country: who can apply and what to prepare.
Online where your municipality offers it, otherwise at the counter
A Dutch licence is renewed or replaced through the municipality where you are registered. Some municipalities also offer online renewal through the RDW, which typically needs the DigiD app and a photo taken by an approved photographer or photo booth. Either way you collect the new licence at the town hall and hand in the old one. If yours is lost or stolen, you report it first and then apply for a new one, and in some cases a health declaration from the CBR, which runs driving exams, is needed.
How it works
Renew a locally issued licence or replace one that is lost, stolen or damaged.
A driving licence issued in the country where you live must be renewed when it expires and replaced if it is lost, stolen or damaged or your details change. You usually need ID, a recent photo and your old licence or, after a theft, sometimes a police report; for some categories or ages, a medical certificate is also required. Some countries let you renew online, while others require a visit. If your licence was issued in another country, use the exchange of a foreign licence instead.

Online renewal exists, but not in every municipality
Some offices let you renew online with the DigiD app and then simply collect the new licence, while others ask you to book a visit to apply, and collection rules differ too. Open an office, for example in Amsterdam or Utrecht, to see which route applies in your city.
