Offices that issue proof of your address in Germany

Walk-in, appointment or online: it depends on the city

Your certificate comes from the registration office of the place where you are registered. Choose your city to see how its offices issue it, whether a simple or extended version is on offer, and what a person acting for you has to bring.

Send an online or postal request if your surname starts with A or N to Z, or book an in-person visit.

Bring ID or passport and proof for any fee exemption. For another person’s certificate, bring written authority and their ID or passport. Ask whoever needs the certificate which additional details it must show; your own certificate is not the same as an address enquiry about someone else. The city still calls this exemption Bürgergeld. Bring your current benefit decision and ask which proof the city accepts now that the benefit has changed to Grundsicherungsgeld; the new national name does not by itself exempt you from the city fee.

    Bürgerservice, Bezirksverwaltungsstelle Osterfeld

Bottroper Straße 183, Rathaus Osterfeld, 46117 Oberhausen
