Citizens’ offices that set PINs, city by city
Most citizens’ offices, the Bürgeramt or Bürgerbüro, can activate the online function of your ID card or set a new PIN, but they differ on walk-in access and on which cards they handle. Your city’s offices show whether you need an appointment and whether they also take EU eID cards and electronic residence permits.

You get free help to switch on or unblock your online ID, and to set a new PIN if you come in person.
Bring the identity card concerned and describe whether the PIN is forgotten, blocked or the online function needs activation. Confirm any additional identification the office requires. An expired card, damaged chip or lost card may need a different procedure. A PIN reset does not renew the card’s validity.
