Offices where you can deregister in Germany

Post, online or in person: it depends on the city

You report your departure to the registration office of the place you are leaving, and you can often choose between a visit, a written form and an online request. Open your city to see which of these its offices accept and what identification to send or bring.

Apply online, in writing or in person, and ask expressly for the confirmation to be posted abroad if you need that.

Prepare the completed and personally signed deregistration form and your identity card or passport; representation requires authorisation. Enter the move-out date, old address, destination and any remaining German homes. The form allows a correspondence contact if the future home is not yet known. Family members who shared the home can use one form; one family member over 16 may sign. Keep the confirmation for later administrative matters.
