Offices where you can deregister in Germany

Post, online or in person: it depends on the city

You report your departure to the registration office of the place you are leaving, and you can often choose between a visit, a written form and an online request. Open your city to see which of these its offices accept and what identification to send or bring.

The city recommends deregistering by post, but you can also book a visit and finish it on the spot.

Complete the official deregistration form and include an ID-card or passport copy. Use extra forms for more than three people. Keep the confirmation for organisations that request proof of departure. Moving elsewhere within Germany normally requires registration at the new address instead.
