Where to report your move in your German city

Each city sets its own way of taking an address change

A move is reported to the registration office for the place you are moving to, not the one you are leaving. Some cities let you start online, others want a visit or a form by post, and the office tells you what to bring with you.

    Bürgerbüro Mitte

    Eberhardstraße 39, 70173 Stuttgart

Register in person and update your ID on the spot, or go online if you have an eID-enabled identity card.

Bring identity card or passport, the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung and any electronic residence permits. For an in-person registration in your own property, complete the housing-provider confirmation yourself. Family members moving together from the same previous home can share the registration; bring their identity documents, or birth certificates for children without them. A representative needs the city’s authorisation form, their own ID and copies of your ID/passport. A guardian with authority to decide residence must register the person and bring the appointment or court order. Bring vehicle documents if requesting their address update too.
