Where to report your move in your German city

Each city sets its own way of taking an address change

A move is reported to the registration office for the place you are moving to, not the one you are leaving. Some cities let you start online, others want a visit or a form by post, and the office tells you what to bring with you.

    Großer Burstah 6, 20457 Hamburg

One person can register the whole family if you share the same moving date and old and new addresses.

Bring valid identity documents, any eID card or residence permit, and the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung naming everyone moving; a lease does not replace it. Homeowners also need purchase or land-register evidence. Bring children’s ID/passport or otherwise birth certificates. For absent people bring original IDs and any required written authority; spouses moving together can represent each other without authority with the ID. Call ahead for under-16 moves without both guardians: a change between parental homes may need consent, a written agreement or a court decision. Bring the vehicle certificate if requesting its address update.
