Where to report your move in your German city

Each city sets its own way of taking an address change

A move is reported to the registration office for the place you are moving to, not the one you are leaving. Some cities let you start online, others want a visit or a form by post, and the office tells you what to bring with you.

Bürgerdienste – Dienstleistungszentrum Innenstadt (EWO, KFZ)

    Südwall 2-4, 44137 Dortmund

If you register online, finish the ID chip update within ten minutes of starting, or you will need a counter visit.

Bring identity documents for everyone moving and the Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. For a family visit, at least one moving family member attends. No advance registration form is needed when attending personally; a representative needs authorization and a completed Meldeschein. Where parents share custody, both must agree to a change in the child’s principal home.
