Where to report your move in your German city

Each city sets its own way of taking an address change

A move is reported to the registration office for the place you are moving to, not the one you are leaving. Some cities let you start online, others want a visit or a form by post, and the office tells you what to bring with you.

    Karl-Marx-Allee 31, 10178 Berlin

Register within two weeks of moving in, at the counter or online if you have a BundID and an activated ID card.

Bring the signed registration form, original identity documents for everyone moving and a signed Wohnungsgeberbestätigung; a lease does not replace it. For a first registration in Berlin, bring existing birth or marriage certificates as a precaution. Counter representation needs written authority and the applicant-signed form. Keeping another German home requires the main-home declaration and a counter visit. A child moving between separated joint-custody parents also requires a counter visit, the consent form and the other parent’s ID; for cohabiting joint-custody parents, bring informal consent if only one attends.
