Immigration offices for EU, EEA and Swiss residents

Each city’s immigration office has its own way of taking enquiries

These cases go to the local immigration office, which can be a city department, a district office or, in Berlin, the Landesamt für Einwanderung. Many ask you to email, phone or use a contact form before they give an appointment. Pick your city to see which cases its office handles and what to prepare, such as your passport and proof of your address.

Apply online for the optional document and wait for the invitation to an appointment for your biometric data.

Prepare a copy of your current passport or substitute and evidence of the free-movement ground, such as employment, self-employment or sufficient means. For first issue, you also need an Anmeldebestätigung or Wohnungsgeberbestätigung. Documents and information generally need to be in German; further evidence can be requested. Confirm the current fee and photo requirements with the office before attending. The city estimates up to three months after complete documents, with substantial variation; this is not an appointment or delivery guarantee.
