Immigration offices for EU, EEA and Swiss residents

Each city’s immigration office has its own way of taking enquiries

These cases go to the local immigration office, which can be a city department, a district office or, in Berlin, the Landesamt für Einwanderung. Many ask you to email, phone or use a contact form before they give an appointment. Pick your city to see which cases its office handles and what to prepare, such as your passport and proof of your address.

Phone first, since a Swiss consultation is arranged only after a telephone enquiry.

Prepare your valid passport or, for Swiss nationals, identity card, and any existing residence documents. Relevant documents are employment, business or service-contract evidence, family civil-status records where applicable, and sometimes health-insurance and livelihood evidence. Ask for the checklist for your circumstances, the current digital-photo requirements, document format, fee and payment instructions. Confirm how to give the statutory notification in time. For Swiss nationals choosing a chip card, the national standard fees under § 52(2) AufenthV and § 1 PAuswGebV are €46 from age 24 and €27.60 below 24, using your age when applying. Duisburg’s page still quotes older amounts. Confirm the format, any additional photo costs and payment instructions before paying.
