Immigration offices for EU, EEA and Swiss residents

Each city’s immigration office has its own way of taking enquiries

These cases go to the local immigration office, which can be a city department, a district office or, in Berlin, the Landesamt für Einwanderung. Many ask you to email, phone or use a contact form before they give an appointment. Pick your city to see which cases its office handles and what to prepare, such as your passport and proof of your address.

59 offices
  • Aachen

StädteRegion Aachen — Aufenthaltsangelegenheiten II (A 33.3 II)

    Hackländerstraße 1, 52064 Aachen

Email or phone the EU team first so your case is confirmed and an appointment can be set up.

Use the combined application form and select the Daueraufenthaltsbescheinigung option for EU nationals. You need an identity card or passport, pension-insurance history and, where needed, employment, self-employment or resources/health-insurance evidence. Ask what alternative evidence applies if you have no pension record. Bring originals and copies as instructed. The certificate fee is €10; confirm payment methods and any individual instructions.

  • Aachen

StädteRegion Aachen — Ausländerbehörde, Infostelle Aachen Arkaden

Trierer Straße 1, Aachen Arkaden, 52078 Aachen

Ask the info desk how to notify your stay and whether you need a document or an appointment.

Prepare a valid passport or Swiss identity card, current German address and entry details. The federal notification particulars include current and former names, birth date and place, addresses, nationalities, purpose, start and duration of residence, and the relevant family relationship. Ask which additional evidence, document format, fee and digital-photo arrangements apply to your case.

  • Augsburg

Stadt Augsburg — Sachgebiet Migration und Aufenthalt

An der Blauen Kappe 18, 86152 Augsburg

Request it through the city’s online service, and remember that saving the form does not submit it.

Prepare valid ID and evidence of your qualifying residence history. Ask which work, study, resources, insurance or absence records your circumstances require. Do not use the third-country-family card checklist or its biometric-photo requirements as the certificate checklist. Address registration alone does not prove five years of qualifying lawful residence.

  • Berlin

For EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

    Landesamt für Einwanderung — Friedrich-Krause-Ufer

    Friedrich-Krause-Ufer 24, 13353 Berlin

Request an appointment through the contact form promptly, as your stay must be notified within three months of arrival.

Prepare the completed residence-title application, valid Swiss passport or ID, proof of Berlin main residence, and evidence of the relevant free-movement ground. Employees bring a contract or job offer; self-employed applicants show business evidence; students or economically inactive applicants need the relevant funds and health-insurance evidence. Berlin asks for originals and copies. Follow current digital biometric-photo instructions: paper photos are generally no longer accepted. Swiss document fees are €46 from age 24 and €27.60 below 24; an on-site digital photo costs €6. The approximately four-week card-production estimate starts after the appointment and does not include the wait for a slot.

  • Bielefeld

For EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

    Kommunale Ausländerbehörde Bielefeld

Niederwall 23, Neues Rathaus, 33602 Bielefeld

Arrange an appointment in person, and note that children aged six or older must come along for fingerprints.

Prepare the residence-document application, valid national passport and a secure digital biometric photo. The city accepts PointID on site (€6) or a certified photographer’s digital transfer code. Federal § 52(2) ties the Swiss chip-card fee to identity-card rates: €46 from age 24, €27.60 below 24. Older figures may also still appear, so confirm the amount when arranging your visit. Cash and cards are accepted.

  • Bochum

For EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

    Ausländerbüro der Stadt Bochum

    Willy-Brandt-Platz 2–6, Rathaus Bochum, 44787 Bochum

After you register your address, phone the immigration office to check whether your case needs anything more.

For the routine step, the Bürgerbüro already forwards the declaration and no additional documents need to be brought to the Ausländerbüro. Keep your registration confirmation and correspondence, and respond if the authority asks for evidence concerning your circumstances. Confirm how the linked Aufenthaltsanzeige should be used before submitting a duplicate.

  • Bochum

    Ausländerbüro der Stadt Bochum

    Willy-Brandt-Platz 2–6, Rathaus Bochum, 44787 Bochum

Call the immigration hotline to learn how the notification and any documents work for Swiss citizens.

  • Bonn

    Ausländeramt der Bundesstadt Bonn

    Am Propsthof 10, 53121 Bonn

Email or phone first to find out how to give your notification and whether a document or appointment is needed.

  • Braunschweig

For EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

    Stadt Braunschweig — Ausländerangelegenheiten

    Friedrich-Seele-Straße 7, 38122 Braunschweig

Email the immigration team with your name and date of birth, and wait for their instructions before visiting.

Ask the team for the checklist and accepted notification method. Sending an enquiry does not count as filing your notification. Keep identity, address, entry-date and residence-purpose information ready; municipal address registration is separate. If you request an electronic document, follow the digital-photo instructions: printed passport photos are no longer accepted. SpeedCapture devices are available in waiting areas 1 and 2; allow about 15 minutes before the appointment to take your photo. Check your document format and any fee with the team.

  • Bremen

    Migrationsamt Bremen

    Stresemannstraße 48, 28207 Bremen

Post your written request with supporting documents, then wait for the office to invite you to an appointment.

Include an informal written request explaining your situation, your passport copy, the EU/EEA citizen’s passport or identity-card copy, both registration confirmations, and the marriage certificate for a spouse or birth certificate for a child. Provide evidence of the relative’s qualifying free movement appropriate to their status, such as employment and pay evidence, self-employment evidence, pension-insurance history, a permanent-residence certificate, or sufficient resources and health insurance. These are examples, not a requirement to provide every type. Ask which evidence and any translation or certification are needed.

  • Bremen

For EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

    Migrationsamt Bremen

    Stresemannstraße 48, 28207 Bremen

Post a written request with copies of your employment records, and ask which evidence fits if you are not an employee.

The checklist asks for an informal written request explaining your current situation, your current employment contract, a current pension-insurance history and your latest payslip, supplied as copies. Ask about alternative evidence if that employment checklist does not fit your case. Bremen gives the fee amount in its invitation letter; do not assume a fixed fee or processing time.

  • Chemnitz

For EU, EEA and Swiss citizens

Ausländer- und Staatsangehörigkeitsbehörde — Stadt Chemnitz

Düsseldorfer Platz 1, Bürgerhaus am Wall, 09111 Chemnitz

This is separate from your address registration, and it is due within three months of arrival.

Have your valid passport or Swiss identity document and the information required for the notification ready: current and previous names, birth details, German and previous addresses, current and former nationalities, and the purpose, start and intended duration of your stay. Include the relevant family relationship if you derive your right from another person. Confirm supporting evidence, signatures and whether personal attendance is needed. If you request a residence document, ask separately about the current fee and digital-photo requirements.

  • Cologne

    Bezirksausländeramt Chorweiler

    Pariser Platz 1, 50765 Cologne

Contact the office early, as Swiss residents have to notify their stay within three months of arriving.

Prepare your Swiss identity document, current and previous addresses, and the purpose, start and expected duration of your stay. Ask the district team for the complete supporting-document list, current document fee and photo requirements for your circumstances. Do not assume another city’s fee or checklist applies.

Ask which periods and documents the team needs, the current fee and whether originals must be brought. No fixed completion time or immediate issue is promised.

  • Cologne

    Bezirksausländeramt Ehrenfeld

    Venloer Straße 419–421, 50825 Cologne

You usually qualify after five years of lawful residence, and the office checks your history, including any gaps.

Ask which periods and documents the team needs, the current fee and whether originals must be brought. No fixed completion time or immediate issue is promised.

  • Cologne

For EU, EEA and Swiss citizens
