Offices for social assistance across Germany

Your address decides which office is yours

A single city can have many offices for living-cost support, each looking after certain districts or surnames, and some also help older people or people with disabilities. Look up your city to see what each office handles, how it wants to be contacted first and what to bring to the visit.

    Jobcenter Wuppertal — Barmen — Kurt-Drees-Straße

Kurt-Drees-Straße 1, Gegenüber dem Barmer Bahnhof, 42283 Wuppertal

Check which of the two Barmen sites your appointment is at before you set off.

For full online access, first create a BundID (German federal online account) account and sign into the Jobcenter’s service portal, then attend a Jobcenter branch with ID for activation. BundID registration or online-ID verification alone does not complete local activation; changing BundID details can require a new visit. Prepare the household, income, assets, housing and identity evidence requested by your application. Keep its submission confirmation. “Completed” in the portal means transmitted, not decided. Technical-support contact is not the place to send claim documents. Since 1 July 2026, SGB (German Social Code) II cash support is called Grundsicherungsgeld. You may still see the older name Bürgergeld on some forms and letters. Existing decisions remain valid; do not submit a new claim solely because the benefit was renamed. Official forms and online services may still show the old name during the transition. Continue to follow your own renewal dates, evidence requests and change-reporting duties.

Sozialamt Wuppertal — Grundsicherung/Hilfe zum Lebensunterhalt

Döppersberg 41, Ehemalige Bundesbahndirektion, Eingang West, 42103 Wuppertal

Book caseworker advice online, or drop in at reception without an appointment for first enquiries and documents.

Complete and sign the application. Prepare applicable household identity, income, assets, benefits, rent, service-charge, heating and insurance evidence. Where relevant, six months of wage slips are needed; ask which bank statements and other proofs your case needs. Submit copies through the linked online submission, by post, PDF email attachment or reception. Avoid sending originals: the city warns they are destroyed six weeks after scanning. Keep submission proof.
