Offices for social assistance across Germany

Your address decides which office is yours

A single city can have many offices for living-cost support, each looking after certain districts or surnames, and some also help older people or people with disabilities. Look up your city to see what each office handles, how it wants to be contacted first and what to bring to the visit.

    Jobcenter Nürnberg-Stadt – Erstanlaufstelle Richard-Wagner-Platz

    Richard-Wagner-Platz 5, 90443 Nuremberg

Apply online or book help with your digital application, and a separate department then decides what you get.

Follow the application’s individual evidence requests; prepare identification and information about household, income, assets and housing costs. Submit document copies, not originals, and add your customer or household case number if known. Keep the online submission receipt. For acute lack of money for food, there is an emergency consultation at Richard-Wagner-Platz 5, Monday–Friday 08:30–10:30, with valid ID and a current bank statement; any advance or loan remains subject to assessment. Postal documents go to Jobcenter Nürnberg-Stadt, Richard-Wagner-Platz 5, 90443 Nürnberg. Since 1 July 2026, SGB (German Social Code) II cash support is called Grundsicherungsgeld. You may still see the older name Bürgergeld on some forms and letters. Existing decisions remain valid; do not submit a new claim solely because the benefit was renamed. Official forms and online services may still show the old name during the transition. Continue to follow your own renewal dates, evidence requests and change-reporting duties.

  • Nuremberg

Stadt Nürnberg – Sozialamt, Wirtschaftliche Hilfen

    Frauentorgraben 17, 90443 Nuremberg

Book a phone consultation online, which is not a visit, and the office will then prepare your application forms.

Prepare ID/passport, evidence of income and assets, tenancy agreement, rent/heating costs and existing insurance. Ask which pension or work-capacity documents apply to you. Send the completed forms and requested evidence through the city’s secure upload assistant or by post, following the consultation. Uploading follow-up documents is not the same as submitting a complete new application. Postal address: Stadt Nürnberg, Amt für Existenzsicherung und soziale Integration – Wirtschaftliche Hilfen, Postfach 900380, 90494 Nürnberg; the visitor address is different.
