Offices that handle residence permits in German cities

Prepare the completed residence application, valid passport or recognised passport substitute, employment contract and the employer’s Erklärung zum Beschäftigungsverhältnis. A first application also needs the city’s Versicherung zur Ausübung der Beschäftigung, submitted with the contract; a renewal needs the last 3 salary statements. Provide a recent biometric photograph transmitted digitally by an approved photo provider, or use a paid photo terminal at the immigration service. Additional evidence may be requested. Use the current fee instructions and arrange any required entry visa before travelling.

Prepare the completed form, valid passport, admission/enrolment evidence, visa if required, adequate health insurance and funding evidence. Travel insurance is insufficient; private cover must satisfy the city’s scope and validity requirements. Funding may be evidenced by a blocked account, formal undertaking, scholarship or qualifying notarised parental support with income records. Use a certified digital biometric photograph or a paid office terminal. Minors need parental consent. Renewals from semester four need academic progress; exceeding standard study length needs university confirmation. The current fees are €100 for the first issue, €96 for a three-month extension and €93 for a longer extension, with conditional scholarship exemptions and half fees under 18.
