Offices for renewing a driving licence in the Netherlands

Online renewal depends on the municipality you are registered in

Renewals and replacements are handled by your own municipality. Online renewal, booking a visit to apply, the photo you need and the way you collect the new licence can all differ from one municipality to the next.

Renew online or book a counter visit, then collect the new licence without an appointment and hand in the old one.

For a counter visit, bring valid ID or passport and a compliant colour photograph. Online renewal requires an eligible Dutch licence issued after 1 October 2006 that is not lost or reported stolen, BRP (Dutch population register) registration, suitable DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites) authentication and an application code from an RDW-approved photographer or booth. Ordinary printed photos and SMS-only DigiD are insufficient online. Arrange any required CBR (Dutch driving test and medical fitness assessor) health declaration early, particularly for expiry at age 75 or later, medical restrictions or truck/bus categories.
