Online first in many towns, a counter visit when needed
Some municipalities send you to the online route before offering a counter visit, and the checks differ for lost, stolen and damaged licences. Each office explains whether you must apply in person and how you collect the new licence.
Aalst

Book a counter visit or, for an expiry, loss or damage, apply online, and collect the new licence yourself.
Bring your identity or residence card, current licence and any applicable loss/theft report, fitness or medical certificate, exam or professional-training evidence. Bring a recent photo if the existing ID photo cannot be reused. Aalst does not take licence photos at the counter.
Antwerp

Apply online first, and book a counter appointment only if that is not possible or your photo no longer looks like you.
For a counter application, bring your identity or foreign-resident card and a new passport photo if the ID photo no longer resembles you, plus any required medical certificate. Existing-licence renewal does not require the examination-centre form. At collection bring the old licence, ID and payment card or app; Harmonie accepts no cash. Collect within three months: an uncollected licence is destroyed and you are still invoiced. After a BelDrive application, collect the licence personally; a representative cannot collect it by proxy.

Phone or email before you go and say whether you are renewing or replacing a lost or damaged licence.
Bring valid identity or residence documentation, the licence to renew or replace and ask whether you need a new identity photo. For categories C/CE/D/DE, medical selection and professional-competence certificates are needed where applicable. Take the licence you still hold and confirm whether fresh category-specific documents are needed.

Counters work in French or Dutch and sometimes English, so bring an adult who can translate if you speak none.
Bring your identity card, previous licence and a compliant photograph less than six months old. Add the required medical fitness evidence if a health condition affects safe driving; professional medical selection has a separate checklist. For a lost or stolen licence, Evere asks for the police declaration. At collection bring identity evidence, the previous licence or loss/theft declaration; a permitted representative also needs authority and a copy of your ID. Online applicants follow the document list in their confirmation email.
Genk

Apply online if you qualify, or book a visit if your case involves a medical certificate, a driving ban or theft.
Bring identification and your old licence. A suitable e-ID photo can be reused; otherwise bring a recent compliant photo. Bring originals of any supporting documents uploaded online. Confirm additional requirements for your particular renewal.
Ghent

Start renewing when fewer than three months remain on your card, and use BelDrive if you qualify.
Bring your identity card and old licence for renewal. The city uses the ID photo; bring a new passport photo if it no longer resembles you. For authorised collection after a counter application, the representative needs your signed authorisation, ID copy and the application receipt. Do not rely on the proxy option after an online application. Ask the department about medical restrictions or a missing old licence before booking.
Hasselt

For renewal prepare your current licence, eID and a compliant photograph taken within six months. Pick up your new licence within three months, because it is cancelled and destroyed after that.
Bring your identity card and current licence. A new photo is needed if the eID photo is no longer a good likeness. The exam-centre application form is for first issue, not ordinary renewal. For theft, first report to police; theft abroad also requires reporting to Belgian police with the foreign report. After applying online through BelDrive, collect the licence personally for the municipal identity check; you cannot send a representative instead.
