Offices for renewing a driving licence in the Netherlands

Online renewal depends on the municipality you are registered in

Renewals and replacements are handled by your own municipality. Online renewal, booking a visit to apply, the photo you need and the way you collect the new licence can all differ from one municipality to the next.

  • The Hague

Stadhuis Spui — Gemeente Den Haag

Spui 70, 2511 BT The Hague

Book a visit at the town hall if you cannot renew online, then collect there yourself.

For the counter bring a compliant photograph no older than six months, valid identification, current licence and debit card. Standard renewal is €53.65; urgent counter renewal is €93.30. Request urgency at the appointment: applications before 14:00 are quoted as collectible two working days later after 12:00, not next day. Online renewal requires an RDW-approved photographer/photo booth to send the photograph and signature, suitable electronic identification/DigiD and iDEAL payment; check the current technical requirements. Ask CBR (Dutch driving test and medical fitness assessor) about a health declaration when required, especially age 75+, a licence expiring on/after 75 in certain older-age cases, medical conditions or C/D renewal. The city exempts AM-only holders from that declaration. Cash is also accepted at Spui. For online RDW renewal, the ready email usually comes after two working days; applications made Friday–Monday can take three. Wait for the message and follow this municipality’s collection arrangements. Collect within three months; after that, RDW requires a new application. If you renew online through RDW, keep the application code sent by email or SMS after an approved photographer or photo booth submits your digital photo and signature. The code is valid for six months and is required to apply. DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites) login using SMS verification alone is not sufficient.
