Where to apply for a Dutch identity card

Applications and collection work differently in each city

You apply at the municipality where you are registered, and each one sets its own routine. Some ask you to book ahead, some need a second visit to hand over the card and some deliver it. Dutch citizens who live abroad can also use certain border municipalities.

    Stadsplein 1, 3431 LZ Nieuwegein

Starting online with DigiD does not complete your application, so you still have to book a visit in person.

Bring a compliant photo and all passports and identity cards, including expired ones; perforated invalid passports need not be brought. For a town-hall photograph arrive at least ten minutes early; babies under three months need a photograph elsewhere. Card payment is preferred at the counter, though cash is accepted. Call 14 030 for a morning-only urgent appointment, subject to availability; normally collect the next working day after 11:00. Missing old documents or a busy counter can prevent urgent handling.
