Where to apply for a Dutch identity card

Applications and collection work differently in each city

You apply at the municipality where you are registered, and each one sets its own routine. Some ask you to book ahead, some need a second visit to hand over the card and some deliver it. Dutch citizens who live abroad can also use certain border municipalities.

Book your application visit and leave your phone number to be notified when the card is ready to collect.

Bring all passports and identity cards, including expired ones, a compliant photo no more than six months old, and a debit or credit card. Bring the old travel documents when collecting. Report a missing or stolen document through the municipality’s loss procedure rather than treating it as an ordinary renewal.
