Where to join public health insurance in German cities

A branch near you can answer questions before you sign

Health insurance funds run their own branches in many cities, and each one sets its own days and ways of seeing new members. Your city’s branches show whether you can apply online or in person, what an adviser can help with, such as confirming your start date or checking cover from your home country, and how international students are treated.

    TK Aachen

    Ursulinerstraße 7–9, 1. OG, 52062 Aachen

Techniker Krankenkasse informs your previous health insurer if you switch, and you tell your employer your choice.

Prepare your personal and contact details, intended start date, previous insurance and country of cover, employment start and pay information, and insurance number if already assigned. The employee form asks about pensions and dependants too. Use the current form; TK (Techniker Krankenkasse, a German public health insurer) will request missing evidence. Confirm separate family-insurance requirements.

    For international students

    TK Aachen

    Ursulinerstraße 7–9, 1. OG, 52062 Aachen

Techniker Krankenkasse checks your home-country cover online and sends the confirmation straight to your university.

For the EHIC route, prepare readable images of the front and back of your card and the information requested for the university notification. Have your university details and proof that home-country cover lasts for your studies available. For a GHIC or an agreement-country entitlement certificate, ask TK (Techniker Krankenkasse, a German public health insurer) which evidence to supply. Follow the form’s applicable foreign-cover option; membership eligibility and any private-insurance exemption require separate clarification.
