Service points for health insurance questions in the Netherlands

Insurer service points and city desks in a few cities

Help comes from two kinds of places: an insurer’s own service point, and a municipal desk that explains the city’s low-income health insurance scheme. Several ask you to phone first or visit only by appointment, and you may need your citizen service number (BSN) ready. Which of the two a city has, and how to reach it, differs from place to place.

  • Alkmaar

    Zaffier — Locatie Stadskantoor

    Mallegatsplein 10, 1815 AG Alkmaar

Phone with questions about the low-income health insurance scheme, then enrol online through your own municipality.

Have income, asset and existing-insurance details available when asking what evidence is needed. Check the premiums and cover for your municipality and chosen package. If insured elsewhere, the switching window runs from mid-November to 31 December; ask about any mid-year option. Enrolling without meeting the conditions can lead to a supplementary charge. If uncertain about your Dutch basic-insurance obligation, request an SVB assessment separately.

  • Leiden

Zorg en Zekerheid — Servicepunt Leiden

Haagse Schouwweg 12, 2332 KG Leiden

Call first to talk through your insurance question, and the adviser can arrange a visit if one is needed.

Have your policy or customer details and relevant correspondence ready. Ask which identity or other documents are needed for your particular question; do not send unnecessary medical information. For a reimbursement claim, ask about the appropriate submission route. The insurer also identifies a claim-document letterbox to the left of the main entrance at Haagse Schouwweg 12; leaving documents there is not a consultation or proof of reimbursement approval. Keep copies and submission confirmations. Verify the current policy terms and effective date before changing cover.

  • Rotterdam

    Publiekslocatie Centrum — Gemeente Rotterdam

    Coolsingel 40, 3011 AD Rotterdam

Ask the insurer’s adviser about the Rotterdampakket on Wednesdays and Fridays, using the side entrance of the town hall.

Have your existing policy and VGZ customer number ready if you already have insurance, plus questions about premiums, deductible costs and the care you expect to use. Ask which identity, BSN (citizen service number), household and income details are needed for an application or municipal contribution. Compare the standard and Compact terms for your own income category; a lower premium does not mean the same cover. Confirm the permitted switching date and actual start date before cancelling existing insurance. Keep the policy confirmation and never share DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites) credentials. Zorgtoeslag is a separate allowance requested from the Belastingdienst, not automatically awarded by this desk.

  • Rotterdam

    Publiekslocatie Feijenoord — Gemeente Rotterdam

    Maashaven O.z. 230, 3072 HS Rotterdam

Get advice on the Rotterdampakket at set sessions on Mondays and Tuesdays, and phone ahead to confirm.

  • The Hague

Stadhuis Spui — Gemeente Den Haag

Spui 70, 2511 BT The Hague

Phone the city’s customer centre to book, and ask specifically for the counter at Spui.

Have your BSN (citizen service number), existing insurance or VGZ customer details and questions ready. Ask which identity, income, asset and household documents are needed for the programme assessment. Tell the adviser about premium arrears, CAK debt registration or a payment arrangement for deductible or co-payment arrears. Online applications follow the official VGZ/municipal application links and require DigiD (the Dutch digital ID for government websites); never share your login with an adviser. For ordinary annual switching, the period is 12 November–31 December for cover from 1 January. Ask which start date applies if your circumstances differ. Keep the application acknowledgement; the decision letter follows within eight weeks. Confirm the current premium and any contribution for your own situation.

  • The Hague

    Stadskantoor Leyweg (stadsdeelkantoor Escamp)

Leyweg 813, 2545 HA The Hague

Visits are by appointment only, so phone the city’s customer centre and keep your BSN ready.
