Municipal passport counters in the Netherlands

Booking and collection options, city by city

Passports are handled by the municipality where you are registered, and larger cities run more than one counter. Some counters let you walk in, others require a booking, and collection or delivery works differently too. Which office takes applications for an alien’s or refugee passport also depends on the city. Dutch citizens who live abroad can also use certain border municipalities.

The online booking list has no option for this passport, so phone first to learn which category to choose.

Bring your residence permit, any current or expired passport or travel document, evidence from your own authorities if relevant, and a compliant photo. Under 18, bring consent from both parents or the person with parental authority and their valid passport/ID or a copy. Ask which guardians and children must attend. The city recommends a photographer for children under eight; its photo booth cannot accept Belgian bank cards. Pay the passport fee when applying; the city requests debit-card payment, though cash is also possible.

Prepare and pay online if you are 18 or over, but you still have to visit in person to be identified.

Bring every passport and ID card you hold, even expired, and a compliant colour photo no older than six months. Under 18, arrange consent from those with parental authority and bring their original ID or copies. Children must attend the application and collection. For children under eight, the municipality recommends a photographer rather than its photo booth.

Apply and collect on two separate visits, and look for new appointment weeks on Friday mornings.

Complete and print a separate NetherlandsWorldwide checklist for each applicant. Bring its original documents, every travel document including foreign or expired ones, and a compliant photo. Under 18, obtain consent from both parents or guardians and bring their ID copies; ask the municipality if consent cannot be obtained. Collect the document personally within three months of applying; otherwise it must be destroyed and a new paid application is required. The Stadskantoor photo booth takes contactless payment and does not accept Belgian bank cards; arrange a compliant photo beforehand if necessary. This restriction concerns the photo booth, not all payments at the counter.
