Offices for Dutch birth, marriage and death certificates

Pick the city where the event was registered

A certificate can only be issued by the municipality that registered the birth, marriage, partnership or death, and moving to another city later does not change that. Requests may go in online with DigiD, by post or at the counter, depending on the office, and the document reaches you in different ways. A valid ID is required.

Apply with DigiD or by signed letter, and note that older records may be held by the regional archive instead.

Explain the purpose and prepare valid ID; postal applications require an ID copy and signature. Representation needs a letter with the reason, representative’s name and both signatures. Ask for the international version if needed abroad; registered-partnership records are available only in Dutch and may need a sworn translation.
