Offices for Dutch birth, marriage and death certificates

Pick the city where the event was registered

A certificate can only be issued by the municipality that registered the birth, marriage, partnership or death, and moving to another city later does not change that. Requests may go in online with DigiD, by post or at the counter, depending on the office, and the document reaches you in different ways. A valid ID is required.

Apply with DigiD and expect it by post within five working days, or phone first if you cannot use DigiD.

Prepare names, record type, event date/place, purpose and delivery address. Confirm any required international format with the recipient. Historic death, marriage and birth records may be free through Erfgoed Enschede after 50, 75 and 100 years respectively. Lawyers/businesses use a separate eHerkenning 2+ route; the government fee-exemption route is for eligible public organisations.
