Where to deregister in the Netherlands before you leave

Your own municipality takes your departure, so start with your city

You deregister from the municipality where you currently live, so pick that city. Each office shows whether a whole household can report online or everyone has to come in person, whether it can give a certificate of deregistration, and what to bring, such as ID for everyone who is leaving.

Ask for proof of deregistration when you report if your destination needs it, and it is sent to your new address.

For a written declaration include an ID copy. Prepare your departure date and new address, and request any required deregistration certificate. Use the booking confirmation for the counter location. Check the separate consequences for insurance, pension and benefits with the relevant organisations.
