Where to deregister in the Netherlands before you leave

Your own municipality takes your departure, so start with your city

You deregister from the municipality where you currently live, so pick that city. Each office shows whether a whole household can report online or everyone has to come in person, whether it can give a certificate of deregistration, and what to bring, such as ID for everyone who is leaving.

Book a counter visit, or report in writing if your whole household leaves, and the city emails you a confirmation.

Prepare the city’s completed “Vertrek naar het buitenland” form, valid identification and the departure and foreign-address details requested on the form. If you report in writing, check which identity document you must attach. Deregistration can take effect on the day of your visit or on your departure date, so if you visit before you leave, ask which date will apply. If you need an international departure certificate, request it when arranging the visit.
