Where to deregister in the Netherlands before you leave

Your own municipality takes your departure, so start with your city

You deregister from the municipality where you currently live, so pick that city. Each office shows whether a whole household can report online or everyone has to come in person, whether it can give a certificate of deregistration, and what to bring, such as ID for everyone who is leaving.

Report online if you leave alone or with the whole family, and note that your BSN stays valid.

Prepare the foreign address or first place of stay and valid ID for a visit. Departure registration is free; ordinary proof may cost extra. You can buy a BRP (Dutch population register) extract at the counter on departure day; afterwards request proof from an RNI (register for non-residents) desk. The Dutch Caribbean departure proof is a separate free document.
