Where to apply for an Icelandic passport

Compare district commissioner offices city by city

Whichever town you live in, you can usually apply at any district commissioner and collect the passport somewhere else if that suits you better. Each office tells you how it takes photos, whether you need an appointment and what to check before you go, such as temporary closures.

    Vatnsnesvegur 33, 230 Keflavík

Apply for your passport wherever you live, with no appointment needed for the application or the photo.

Bring your previous passport, driving licence or identity card. With shared custody, both guardians must consent; for an online application the second guardian must approve within seven days. One guardian can accompany the child for the photograph; another accompanying adult needs written authorisation. If you have no accepted identity document, attend with two adult witnesses who bring their own identification and complete the official authentication form. For a child’s written-consent route, use form V-901 when the current passport has more than nine months left or a guardian lacks electronic ID. If a guardian cannot attend, that guardian completes the form before two witnesses; the attending guardian brings it. If a third party applies, follow the official authorisation and accompanying-document requirements. After an online application, missing the 30-day photo step requires a refund request; do not assume it is automatically refunded.
