Where to apply for social assistance in the Netherlands

Applications go to the municipality where you live

Each municipality sets its own first step. In some places you apply online with DigiD, in others you phone first, which can fix your application date, or sign up on werk.nl before an adviser contacts you. Offices also have their own help for people who find the form hard, and their own list of what to prepare.

If you are 27 or older, call to book a first conversation and you will get the right form and document checklist.

Explain why you need assistance and bring any correspondence relevant to the appointment. Use the individual document list and form supplied at the first conversation; do not substitute another municipality’s online form. If requested, follow the link WIL provides for entering your digital CV. You may bring someone to the meeting. Keep copies and proof of submission, and follow WIL’s instructions for further questions. The client postal address is Antwoordnummer 2568, 3430 VB Nieuwegein; confirm which documents and delivery method are required.
