Where to apply for social assistance in the Netherlands

Applications go to the municipality where you live

Each municipality sets its own first step. In some places you apply online with DigiD, in others you phone first, which can fix your application date, or sign up on werk.nl before an adviser contacts you. Offices also have their own help for people who find the form hard, and their own list of what to prepare.

Gemeente Groningen — Europapark Werk en Inkomen

Harm Buiterplein 1, 9723 ZR Groningen

Apply online with DigiD, saving the form to finish later, and ask at the income counter if you need help.

Prepare statements from all accounts, including online accounts, for the last three months, plus a debt overview excluding DUO debt as specified by the city. Income and asset details, rent or mortgage evidence and a job-application overview may also be relevant. Upload legible files. The short application is for people whose Groningen benefit ended less than 30 days ago and who worked less than 30 days after it ended; include payslips as PDFs. Ask your local WIJ-team or an independent client supporter for help if needed.
