Where to apply for social assistance in the Netherlands

Applications go to the municipality where you live

Each municipality sets its own first step. In some places you apply online with DigiD, in others you phone first, which can fix your application date, or sign up on werk.nl before an adviser contacts you. Offices also have their own help for people who find the form hard, and their own list of what to prepare.

    Kamperstraat 40, 7418 CB Deventer

Apply online with DigiD, and the city normally calls within three working days to set up an interview.

The adviser explains which financial and personal evidence is needed for your case; provide it completely and on time. You may bring someone to the roughly 30-minute interview. If homeless, visit Kamperstraat 40 to arrange the next Tuesday or Thursday appointment between 09:30 and 12:00; reception is open weekdays 08:30–17:00, telephone +31 570 856 700. Check how claiming public funds affects your residence status with IND (Dutch immigration service) where relevant.
