Each town sets its own routine for extracts and copies

Each municipality runs its own civil registry counter. Some take online orders, others only booked visits.

Apply online or through the city’s app, and mention if the certificate is meant for use abroad.

For your own request prepare eID. For another person, check applicant identity, authority, identity copy and justified-interest evidence. A foreign birth not transcribed in Belgium normally has to be obtained from the birthplace; if transcribed, ask the city for the Belgian record. Apostille or legalisation is needed only where applicable, not automatically for every foreign use. If your document needs an FPS Foreign Affairs legalisation or apostille, the federal fee has been €25 per legalisation or apostille since 1 August 2026. This is separate from any municipal certificate fee; check whether your document and destination actually require it.
